Curse of the Demon/Night of the Demon [PG]
"It's in the trees! It's coming! THE DEMON! IT'S COMING!"
Depending on which version is shown, the film is either a psyhcological thriller or a Western kaiju flick.
Based on "Casting the Runes" by M. R. James. -
The Dark Half (1993) [R]
George A. Romero's take on a Stephen King novel by the same title was released at the '90s intersection
of incredible practical effects and barely passable CGI. -
The Wickerman (1973) [R]
This is one of my favorite
musicalsfolk horror films. -
Ghost Story (1981) [R]
An eerie tale of feminine rage.
Despite being a 1980s horror film, Ghost Story has the atmosphere of older films of the genrec and M.R. James stories. It does not hold back on gory special effects that peaked during the decade. -
Vampire Circus (1972) [R]
Hammer Film Productions are notorious for low budget gore and gratuitous smut, and Vampire Circus does not disapoint in either category.
David Prowse makes an appearance. -
House (1985) [R]
William Katt (Greatest American Hero) is a Vietnam vet turned horror writer dealing with the ghosts of his past and a nosy George Weldt (Norm from Cheers) as a neighbor.
If anything, watch this horror-comedy for the scene with the creature above. The ghost/monster designs are all a wonderful mix of horrifying and goofy.

"Bearies"
If this were made by a large studio, it probably would be smothered by obnoxious Blumhouse-style sound effects.
Thankfully, the creators understood restraint and let the visual language of horror do the work. -
"Childer"
The atmosphere captures the beauty of late October with subtle, slow-building tension.
However, this is not an easy watch... CW: Child abuse
